Emerging Polymer-Stabilized Blue Phase Liquid Crystal Display
Polymer-stabilized blue-phase liquid crystals hold great potential for future display applications. Some technical challenges, such as blue-phase temperature range, operation voltage, hysteresis, and voltage holding ratio remain to be overcome before widespread commercialization can be realized. In this paper, we review recent advances in this emerging technology.
متن کاملTransflective display using a polymer-stabilized blue-phase liquid crystal.
A wide view, submillisecond response, and single-cell-gap transflective display using a blue-phase liquid crystal (BPLC) is proposed. To balance the optical phase retardation between transmissive (T) and reflective (R) regions, in-plane protrusion electrodes are formed with different gaps in the two regions. This display exhibits reasonably high optical efficiency and well matched voltage depen...
متن کاملElectro-optics of polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystal displays
Electro-optics of polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystal displays BP LCDs is analyzed and validated experimentally. A numerical model for characterizing and optimizing the electro-optical and display properties of BP LCDs in in-plane switching and fringe field switching cells is developed. The simulated voltage-dependent transmittance curves agree well with the measured results. To lower ...

Linghui Rao (SID Student Member) Jin Yan (SID Student Member) Shin-Tson Wu (SID Fellow) Abstract — The prospects of emerging polymer-stabilized blue-phase liquid-crystal displays, or more generally, Kerr-effect-induced isotropic-to-anisotropic transition, are analyzed with special emphases on the temperature effects. As the temperature increases, both the Kerr constant, induced birefringence, a...
متن کاملA Hysteresis-free Polymer-stabilized Blue Phase Liquid Crystal
Our experimental results indicate that UV curing conditions dramatically affect the electro-optic performance of a polymerstabilized blue phase liquid crystal (PS-BPLC). In an IPS cell, the UV light direction, wavelength, and dosage influence the polymer network distribution, operation voltage and hysteresis. By using a longer UV wavelength, we demonstrated a hysteresis-free PS-BPLC.
